The old Bray Town dump is fixed and is no longer eroding into the sea, following coastal works between Bray and Woodbrook.
The North Beach dump is a legacy landfill site utilised by Bray up to the late 1960s and pre- dates environmental and waste management standards.
The site had been back filled when the dump closed but for the last 20 years it has been eroded by the sea and the stratified layers of waste were visibly leaching into the marine environment.
The main task was to stabilise the sandy cliff face which was being eroded year on year exposing the landfill. After every storm event more waste became visible and ended up on the beach and in the sea.
The remedial works consisted of constructing a rock revetment which is now almost completed.
The site is now protected and presents the opportunity for an amenity site and to form part of a north harbour coastal cycle path.
The Bray North Beach Works is part of the Bray Woodbrook Landfill Remediation Project.
