The Fitzsimons family from Wicklow will have to dig deep in the finale of Ireland's Fittest Family.
The Fitzsimons family from Wicklow will have to dig deep during one of the most challenging fitness trials of their lives this Sunday evening on Ireland's Fittest Family, with other families from Louth, Cork, and Donegal also vying for the title.
This year's finale will take place on The Mountain in Kilruddery, in a 90-minute TV special, culminating in one family walking away with the coveted title of Ireland's Fittest Family 2022, and €15,000. After completing gruelling qualifier rounds, only four teams remain, with Davy Fitzgerald's Nugents from Louth, Donncha O'Callaghan's Finnegans from Cork, and Anna Geary's two teams - the Gallaghers from Donegal, and the Fitzsimons from Wicklow, in the final.
Speaking ahead of Sunday's episode, coach Anna Geary said:
"Both the Gallaghers and the Fitzsimons this year have very different dynamics and very different strategies ahead of the final, which will have some brand-new challenges this season. It has been so exciting so far - this final is the closest yet - it comes down to the wire. It is challenging, you want both families to do really well. you do what you can for both.
"This is my third final with two families in the final four.
"Donncha is definitely mad to beat me! I think Davy came in disappointed to have gone out first last year. He has a new sense of determination and the Nugents are a very strong family. It is the most epic final yet - all four families will leave it all out there and it's one of the best final showdowns we have ever had."
On coach Nina Carberry who missed out on a place in the final this year, Anna said:
"For Nina, it's hard for her not to be in the final on her first year, but I know already she will come back much stronger, she will definitely be waiting in the long grass for next season."
On Sunday evening's 90-minute special, the families take on Mountain Madness and old show favourite Back Against the Wall for points, before the bottom two face an eliminator and the loser exits the competition. With three families remaining, the families take on a brand-new event - the gruelling Wall of Pain. Only two families make it through to the Grand Final, and only one will be crowned Ireland’s Fittest Family.
