Wicklow TD John Brady Acknowledges Need For Support Towards Children’s Disability Services.

An Inclusion Ireland report found that over 50% of families surveyed were not in receipt of any service.

In a recent report by Inclusion Ireland, it was found that over 50% of the families of children with disabilities surveyed were not in receipt of any service. As such, Inclusion Ireland has been calling on the urgent implementation of interim measures to address the lack of services being provided to children with disabilities. The report was welcomed by Sinn Féin TD for Wicklow John Brady. Speaking on the matter, Brady says that "this report confirms that the government is not coming close to fulfilling its legal obligations to protect children’s rights in respect to access to therapeutic interventions. ... Inclusion Ireland highlight the frustration felt by families in respect to the right to an assessment under the Disability Act, and the introduction of a short screening assessment by the HSE, which does not entail a diagnosis. ... The introduction of the short screening assessment by the HSE was an attempt to hide the true extent of assessments of need waiting lists. ... Families need more than rhetoric; they need to see real delivery that makes a genuine difference in their children’s lives."
