The HSE is urging the people of Wicklow who become injured or ill this holiday period to go to their local pharmacist, GP, or to visit a HSE Minor Injuries Unit over calling an ambulance.
Hospitals are experiencing overcrowding due to patients suffering from winter viruses.
The HSE urged people who are feeling unwell to first consider options in their community in order to allow emergency services to focus on patients with life threatening conditions, such as heart attacks and strokes.
“Our emergency departments are extremely busy at the moment," said Martina Queally, HSE Dublin and South East Regional Executive Officer.
It will also help avoid lengthy waiting times, she added.
