Two men, one from Wicklow the other from South County Dublin were jailed yesterday after being convicted of convincing more than 140 people from around the world, to invest more than €5 million in a forestry investment scam.
The case came to light after one investor from Finland became concerned about his investment and contacted gardai.
42 year old David Peile from Avondale Court, Ballyguile, on the outskirts of Wicklow town was given a four year sentence with the final year suspended while 43 year old Garret Hevey of Brookdene, Shankill, Dublin, who was considered the mastermind of the scam, was given a five year sentence with the final year suspended.
