Wicklow Man To Be Sentenced After Being Found Guilty Of Raping Woman At Dublin Nightclub In 2019

A woman who was raped by three men she met in a Dublin city nightclub has told their sentence hearing they robbed her of her freedom and her love for life.

One of the men, Matin Zolfaghari, from Marlay Court, Rathfarnham, Dublin 11, took a video of the woman being raped, which he sent to a co-accused.
In one of two clips found on Matin Zolfaghari’s phone, the woman could clearly be heard repeatedly saying, “no,” but the men didn’t stop.

He, along with his friends; Anthony Hickey, of Ballyogen Square, Carrickmines, Dublin; and Fabio Vicente, of Little Newtown, Enniskerry, Co Wicklow, were found guilty of raping her after a night out in August 2019.

In her victim impact statement, she said she was raped by three complete strangers who used her body as if it was an object they were entitled to.

Before that night, she said she used to find the good in everyone, but that they turned her into someone who thinks everyone she meets is a threat.

She described the road to justice as, “long and daunting,” but in praising the gardai and lawyers who brought her case forward, she told them

they had changed her life.

The three men will be sentenced later this month.
