The man pleaded guilty to two counts of active and passive corruption on September 6th and 9th, 2019.
It is understood that the man receieved the confidential information from a former civilian employee of An Garda Síochána.
The employee had been relaying information back to the Wicklow man from Dun Laoghaire District Office.
Following a search of the employee’s home, devices, and digital records, it was found that she had been providing the man with screenshots of the Garda Pulse system, including the locations of garda checkpoints, which he also shared with third-parties. It is believed that the employee was paid for this information in cocaine.
Judge Orla Crowe sentenced him to two years in prison on each count to run concurrently, with the final 12 months suspended for two years.
Mitigating factors in the case included the man’s guilty plea, young age, and the probation report which placed him at a low risk of reoffending.
The man has no previous convictions.
