Over 6,000 children are waiting longer than the law allows to have special needs assessments completed.
The figure has grown by almost a third since the end of last year.
An 'assessment of need' allows children to be diagnosed with a disability, such as autism, and then apply for the care they need.
They are legally supposed to be complete within six months.
