A foul smell from the wastewater plant in Greystones has been regularly reported by residents in the area, often after periods of heavy rain.
Following many complaints, Councillor Lourda Scott has been urging Uisce Éireann to find a solution to the matter.
Scott has welcomed the news that investigative works are scheduled to start in Q1 2025.
Speaking on the matter Scott said: “I was glad to receive confirmation from Uisce Éireann today that a full survey of the site has been commissioned for Q1 2025. The recommendations of this survey will determine if a programme of works is to be undertaken to address the intermittent odour issues.
“In the interim the Operations Team are regularly changing the carbon filters on the odour control units to mitigate as much as possible against malodours from the plant.
“This is welcome news as I have been following up complaints on this matter over the past 18months, and foul smells were also raised when canvassing the area. I hope that these works will lead to a rapid resolution of the matter for local residents. “
