Two of Ireland's largest homebuilders have applied to the High Court, seeking a Judicial Review of the new Wicklow County Development Plan.
Cairn Homes and Glenveagh’s decision to seek a Judicial Review follows a significant reduction in the number of new homes which can be built during the new plan, which is due to run until 2028.
They claim the plan has underestimated Wicklow’s population growth in recent years due to an over reliance on outdated census data from 2016.
The new six-year plan imposes a ceiling on the delivery of new homes in the county at 8,467.
This is more than 45% lower than the previous housing target.
Due to this newly imposed ceiling, there will be capacity for approximately 7,000 fewer homes in Wicklow over the six years of this plan than was previously available.
