The Taoiseach has admitted the approach and process around the selection of Katherine Zappone as a UN Special Envoy was wrong.
In a statement last night, Micheal Martin said the Minister for Foreign Affairs apologised to him and the Green Party Leader Eamon Ryan.
The Taoiseach said any position of special envoy offered in future should only come through a 'fully open, transparent and advertised competition'.
It comes after weeks of political controversy following the appointment of the former government Minister Katherine Zappone, to a Special Envoy role at the UN in New York.
