Schools and creches in counties affected by a Status Red wind warning will close for the duration of the alert.
The National Emergency Co-ordination Group has made the announcement ahead of Storm Eoywn's arrival to Ireland.
The status red alert has been extended to 22 counties including Wicklow, Dublin and Kildare.
It will remain active between 6am and 12pm on Friday.
Gusts of up to 180 kilometres can be expected and Met Éireann is warning of a danger to life and treacherous travelling conditions.
