Bray will see the construction of its first ever skateboard park.
Bray will see the construction of its first ever skateboard park after the majority of councillors voted to support it at a meeting of Bray Municipal District last night. Five of the eight Bray councillors voted to support the park including Cllrs Erika Doyle, Aoife Flynn Kennedy and Rory O’Connor, three councillors who formed part of the skate park sub-committee and worked to develop the proposal. The skate park was designed in conjunction with Bray Skateboarding Association who campaigned and lobbied for a park for over a decade. The park will be located close to Shoreline Leisure in the Ballywaltrim area off the Southern Cross Road. During the meeting the councillors paid tribute to the skateboarders and also thanked local residents for their robust contribution to the public consultation process. Cllr Erika Doyle said, “We are delighted to be able to deliver this much wanted amenity for young people in Bray, and some not so young! Some of the skaters who began the campaign many years ago are now parents of young skaters themselves. The part 8 process allowed us to hear the views and deal with concerns of a wide range of people. I am confident that the community will work together to make the very most of this new facility.” Cllr Aoife Flynn Kennedy said, “The call for a skatepark in Bray has been made for years, however calls for something do not work, it takes real action. I commend the Bray Skateboard Association, the officials and my fellow Councillors who took the necessary action to finally bring this amenity to Bray. My thanks to the local community for and against who participated in the process. This is a significant milestone and a result of Councilors working together for the good of the community.''
