A potential property has been identified to provide permanent accommodation for Wicklow Educate Together Secondary School.
Responding to a parliamentary question raised by Deputy Jennifer Whitmore on the issue, the Minister of Education has today confirmed that the site, which was identified last year, has been determined by an architectural consultant to be a suitable site to develop to provide the accommodation required by the school.
Speaking today, Whitmore said:
“This latest development in the campaign to find a permanent home for Wicklow ETSS is very encouraging. Having this site deemed as suitable holds promising prospects for the school community of Wicklow Educate Together Secondary School. This crucial step forward brings renewed hope and anticipation to the school community, which has been waiting for over five years for a resolution to their accommodation challenges.
“Wicklow Educate Together Secondary School has been grappling with growing demands amidst population surges in Wicklow town and surrounds. Operating in temporary accommodation, the school has faced constraints in meeting the needs of its students and community. Space has been limited and its facilities wholly inadequate for the past five years so the urgency to secure a permanent location has become paramount. This new progress brings us one step closer to changing that.
Deputy Whitmore continues;
“The school's commitment to providing quality education to its students is commendable, despite the challenges posed by its current situation. It is imperative now, to allow the school to continue to deliver such a quality education to the 300 + families in Wicklow Town, that a sense of urgency is injected into the procurement and planning processes to keep momentum on this project. I will continue to push for swift delivery on this vital project for the school community of Wicklow Educate Together Secondary School."
