After writing to the ESB Wicklow Minister Simon Harris can confirm work is underway to get lights switched on in coming weeks
Minister Simon Harris has been campaigning for public lighting in Kilpedder Village and has repeatedly raised the issue with ESB representatives. Last August, funding was finally approved for new footpaths and public lighting but the connections are still not operational.
Last week Minister Harris received correspondence from ESB confirming that:
- A local ESB Networks team is to work on the connections of the lights this week
- Assuming all necessary works are carried out, the supervisor in charge of the works is planning to complete all connections by the week of the 4th of December
Speaking today Minister Simon Harris said “I am very glad to hear that there is light at the end of the tunnel for Kilpedder Village.
“For months this has been an issue I have been aware of and have been following up on. As far as I understand the certificate for the connections were issued weeks ago and therefore the lights should already be on.
“It's clearly in the interest of everybody’s safety that we get the lights on as soon as possible.
“We know that as we head into much darker days, these lights are vital for people’s welfare.
“It is a positive step forward that the local ESB Networks team is to start completing the connections so we can get the lights switched on at the start of next month.
Minister Harris concluded :“I intend on following up on this issue until I am assured that all the necessary works are completed and the residents in Kilpedder are satisfied with the lighting in their village.”
