The first public consultation report has been published for a project that is set to create a significant renewable energy source off the coast of Wexford and south coast of Wicklow, bringing with it clean energy for homes and employment to the region. Energia, the company responsible for the South Irish Sea project, has also said it will bring a multi-million euro community benefit fund to the south east region, and that it believes this project will help achieve Ireland’s 2030 climate action targets by decarbonising energy supply. It is proposed that the offshore wind farms would be located at a minimum of 10km and up to 25km off the coasts. A planning application for the proposed South Irish Sea project is expected to be lodged in 2023. This project is running concurrently with Energia’s North Celtic Sea project, aiming to create renewable energy sources off the Waterford coast.
