The Minister for Education Joe McHugh has invited patron bodies to apply for the patronage of six new post-primary schools to be established next year.
The majority of the schools will be in Dublin and the commuter belt counties of Wicklow, Meath and Kildare.
Parents and guardians of eligible children are also being asked to express their preferred patron through an online survey.
The call comes as the new school to serve the Kilcoole and Greystones area is set to open in 2020 a year ahead of schedule. Minister of State,
Wicklow TD Andrew Doyle has welcomed the announcement.
