In answer to a parliamentary question submitted by Wicklow TD Jennifer Whitmore, the Department of Public Expenditure could not provide detailed timelines on the competition of the project.
The full works in the station include:
· Works to improve safety measures for staff
· Works to reconfigure the space in the station in order to improve staff mobility
· Works to improve access for the public
· Carpark resurfacing, including the replacement of underground services and drainage
· The installation of electric vehicle charging stations
· Improved lighting system for the carpark
· Works on structural defects to the existing stone boundary wall and outhouses to the rear of the station
In a statement Deputy Whitmore said:
“I was very disappointed with the answer I received from Minister O’Donovan to my question on this matter. The state of repair of Greystones Garda Station has been an issue since 2006. For years now we have been told that funding has been allocated, but that funding never materialised. And while the commencement of works is to be welcomed, starting with the repair of the stone wall and the carpark, we need a firm commitment for the internal works at the Garda Station, not only the commencement and completion date but the plan of works intended.”
