New Parenting Support Initiative Announced For Greystones And Delgany

It Takes a Village is partnering with Triple P – Positive Parenting Program to offer a range of evidence-based parenting support as part of its focus on the well-being of children in the Greystones/Delgany area.

The initiative will provide tools to help children build resilience and assist parents and guardians with addressing increased levels of anxiety.

Triple P – Positive Parenting Program® is one of the most effective evidence-based parenting programmes in the world, backed by four decades of ongoing research. Triple P gives parents and carers simple and practical strategies that are proven to help families build strong, healthy
relationships, confidently manage their children’s behaviour and prevent problems from developing.

Triple P’s programmes are delivered in more than 30 countries and are used widely in Ireland by the Health Service Executive (HSE) and Tusla.
As part of the initiative, Triple P will also deliver a seminar based on an innovative programme designed to assist parents in managing their children’s screen time, providing practical guidance to parents and guardians.

It Takes a Village is a community-wide initiative dedicated to the well-being of primary school
children in the Greystones and Delgany area. Through collaboration and community engagement, It Takes a Village aims to create a nurturing environment for children, equipping them with the necessary tools and support to thrive in today's challenging landscape.

A key part of this initiative is supporting parents and guardians with essential well-being and digital awareness skills through workshops, practical support, and other collaborative initiatives.

The ITAV/Triple P initiative will involve a mix of free in-person seminars and access to online parenting support programmes for parents and guardians.

The first seminar, Helping your child manage anxiety, takes place on:
Thursday 17th  October at 7.30-9.30 pm at Temple Carrig School
Friday 18th  October at 9.30-11.30 am at St. Patrick’s School

Friday 8th  November at 9.30-11.00 am at St. Patrick’s School

Triple P Online - for parents and carers of children aged 2- 12
Teen Triple P Online - for parents of teens

The initiative has been welcomed by Taoiseach Simon Harris TD who said:
“I welcome this new initiative by ‘It Takes A Village’ in partnership with Triple P, which is a very
practical and effective support for parents and guardians locally. I know from speaking to parents
across the area the level of anxiety some children can experience growing up.
All parents and guardians are keen to ensure that their children are supported and encouraged to be
resilient and to overcome the challenges that they face as they grow up and mature. As Taoiseach I
want to see as many measures and initiatives brought forward to assist and equip parents and
guardians in making real difference in the lives for the young people in our community”.

The initiative was also welcomed by Minister for Health, Stephen Donnelly TD.

“The most important influence on a child is the parenting they receive. This great initiative by It
Takes A Village and Triple P will support parents, in developing a good relationship with our children,
to face life's various challenges in a healthy community. We are not parenting alone, working with
the legislators, working with the healthcare professionals, working with the educators, - we are
working and supporting each other, together.”

Commenting on the initiative, Rachel Harper, Campaign and Advocacy Lead for It Takes a Village
said: “We are excited to collaborate with Triple P to offer parents and guardians in Greystones and Delgany a range of practical tools to support their children’s emotional well-being. With increasing challenges such as anxiety and managing screen time, the Triple P initiative will offer practical help for parents, guardians and children to feel more confident and equipped. By working together as a community, we’re building a stronger, more resilient future for the children.”
