New Community Action Biodiversity Plan Announced For Roundwood

The plan promotes and celebrates the biodiversity within the village and its hinterland and provides a plan of action by which biodiversity can be enhanced. 

Following a successful application to the Community Foundation Ireland by Roundwood Tidy Towns Biodiversity Group, a subcommittee of the Roundwood and District Community Council, local ecologist Faith Wilson was commissioned by the Group to prepare a biodiversity action plan for Roundwood Village.

Several landowners also volunteered to have their lands surveyed and actions for these and part of the Vartry Reservoir, (with the permission of Uisce Eireann) are also included in the study.

The focus of this 165 page Biodiversity Action Plan  takes account of the habitats and biodiversity in the environs of Roundwood Village.

There is a strong emphasis on community involvement with the intention that the community will take ownership of the plan and responsibility for its implementation.

The plan a series of practical and simple biodiversity actions that can be undertaken by residents in their gardens, on local sports grounds, at Roundwood Graveyard and in public areas in the village.

The inclusion of farmland in the plan highlights the important and valuable role that the farming community have in supporting biodiversity on their land.

Local farmers have actively engaged in various environmental schemes over the years including REPS, GLAS and most recently the ACRES scheme. 

The actions relating to farmland within the plan provide a blue print for other landowners and farmers to follow.

The Community Biodiversity Action Plan (CBAP) for Roundwood promotes and celebrates the biodiversity within the area and provides a 
plan by which it can be enhanced.
