Greystones Councillor Lourda Scott has welcomed the news that Wicklow County Council has granted permission for the long-awaited amenity building in Archer’s Wood, Delgany to proceed.
Cllr Scott, who has campaigned tirelessly to retain this vital community space, described the decision as a significant victory for local residents.
“Not only have I successfully fought to save this amenity building, but it will now be gifted to the Council, ensuring it remains a community resource for years to come. This means that people living locally will have a say in its use and management, and we can work to ensure that it remains affordable and accessible to all.”
Cllr Scott acknowledged the role that local voices played in this outcome.
“This is a win for the whole community. People have been raising concerns about the lack of facilities for years, and their voices have made a difference. It’s proof that when we push back and work together, we can get results.”
She is now calling on residents and community groups to have their say on how the space should be used.
“This building has the potential to be a real asset for the area, and I want to hear from people about how we can make the most of it. Whether it’s space for clubs, classes, or social gatherings, now is the time to shape its future.”
Cllr Scott reaffirmed her commitment to ensuring local infrastructure keeps pace with development, pledging to push for a timeline of completion of the building with no further delays."
