Major Changes Planned For Asylum Seekers Process

Ireland's direct provision system will end in 2024, after being in operation for over 20 years.

In a new report, the Department of Equality says all existing centres will close on a phased basis over the next four years.
Under a new system, asylum-seekers will stay in a reception centre for less than four months, before getting their own housing.
Minister for Equality, Roderic O'Gorman, says the new arrangement will be fully operational by December 2024.
