Wicklow Fine Gael Minister Simon Harris TD today announced €281,700 funding for Wicklow under the Outdoor Recreation Infrastructure Scheme. Ten Wicklow projects are to benefit from funding under the scheme.
Minister Harris said: “I am delighted to confirm a significant investment under the Outdoor Recreation Infrastructure Scheme for ten recreation and rural walking trails. The Outdoor Recreation Infrastructure Scheme provides support for the necessary repair, maintenance, enhancement or promotion of existing outdoor recreational infrastructure in rural areas across Wicklow”.The ten walking trails to benefit in Co Wicklow are: The Sean Lenihan walking trail in Aughrim €27,000The Avonmore Way €29,700 Ballyboy Equestrian Trail €29,700 Devil’s Glen river walk and extension of trails in forest €27,000 The airlifting of materials into sensitive sites along the Glen Turn Cliff Walk €29,700 Resurfacing of Miner’s Way in Ballinafunshogue €25,200Upgrade of the Oakwood-Ballingee trail €27,000Installation of a play area along the Red Kite Loop in Avoca €29,700 New access points for Coillte amenities in West Wicklow €27,000 The airlifting of materials into sensitive sites in Wicklow Uplands €29,000
Minister Harris added:“This funding will support the economic and tourism potential of County Wicklow and make these rural outdoor amenities more accessible and improved experience for tourists and local visitors alike”.
