Gardaí in Greystones have issued an alert to owners of Japanese imported cars following a recent spate of car thefts – with one stolen car later found in the Blanchardstown area of Dublin. Three arrests have subsequently been made in DublinGardaí said that an analysis of the reported incidents “suggests thieves are specifically targeting Toyota Vitz (Yaris) and Toyota Aqua models, as it appears these particular models have poor security measures and car thieves know this,” adding that in the last week, “we have noticed Nissan vehicles have also been of interest to criminals”.An appeal has been launched for owners of these cars to consider additional security measures.It comes as three people were arrested in Dublin regarding the theft of some of the reported stolen vehicles in the Farrankelly Road area of Greystones, with two cars stolen on May 17 from the car park of an apartment block, one of which was later found in Blanchardstown, while on May 19, an attempt was made to steal another vehicle in the same area.While gardaí said the arrests of were “good news” and hope “it puts them off returning to Wicklow for the foreseeable future”, advice has been issued for car owners, particularly owners of susceptible Japanese imports and Nissan models, to consider deterrents, such as installing immobilisers and alarms, tracking systems which can greatly help in recovering vehicles that have been stolen, as well as vehicle etching.
