Greystones Community College New Building Works Get Underway.

Taoiseach Simon Harris T.D. will today turn the sod for Greystones Community College’s new school building

Taoiseach Simon Harris T.D. turned the sod for Greystones Community College’s new school building, officially opening the construction site.

 The Taoiseach said,

“This morning I am delighted to turn the sod on Greystones Community College’s new school building ... For months, I and many other parents and families across Greystones have been eagerly awaiting this day ... Today marks the official opening of this site. However, work is already well underway, with construction ongoing for nearly two months now.

“When elected Taoiseach, I understood the importance of delivering this new 1,000 student school for Greystones, and I committed to working to ensure that we would see ground broken on this site as soon as possible.

“Earlier this summer I was thrilled to confirm that builders were on site, and now it is great to see the progress that has already been made in just a few short weeks ... I fully intend to keep a close eye on this project as it progresses and ensure that there will be no undue delays in providing this new state of the art educational facility.

“For some time now, Principal Ruairi Farrell and the team here at Greystones Community College have been going above and beyond to serve the local community and provide a high-quality education for our young people, at times in less-than-ideal conditions”.

Meanwhile Wicklow TD and Minister for Health Stephen Donnelly also joined staff and students of Greystones Community College this morning as the sod was turned to allow the full build get underway. It’s expected that foundations will be laid in a matter of weeks.

Speaking at the ceremony this morning, Minister Donnelly said:

“It has been a long road to get to this point and there have been a few bumps along that road, but I am absolutely delighted to join the Greystones Community College family and Kildare and Wicklow Education and Training Board this morning for this significant milestone.

“It is a proud day for principal Ruairi Farrell, all the staff and students who will benefit from this new school. I’ve worked closely with Ruairi and my cabinet colleagues to ensure that we could deliver this much needed school building.

“More than 170 students are starting first year today at the Mill Road building and they will continue their education in the new school building during their second year”.
