A public meeting organised by People Before Profit TD Paul Murphy has kick-started a new campaign to demand urgent action on the bus service provided by Go Ahead Ireland.
Following the meeting, campaigners have launched a public petition calling for major changes to improve the reliability of the bus service and to end what they call “the failed privatization experiment”.
The petition can be signed online here
The meeting heard that there has been a huge amount of cancelled buses in recent weeks, in particular on the privatised bus routes run by Go-Ahead.
It was highlighted that the current contracts with Go-Ahead are set to expire in October, with calls for the contracts not to be renewed, and instead the routes and staff to be reintegrated into Dublin Bus.
There was widespread anger at the meeting over plans to extend privatisation by handing Go-Ahead even more routes, including the 56A, the 65 serving Blessington, and the 77A.
The campaigners have pledged to continue building public pressure, with plans to submit the petition in two weeks and step up actions against the planned expansion of Go-Ahead’s routes.
