€721,000 Funding Announced For Roads Improvements In Wicklow.

This is to deal specifically with the impact of climate change.

Minister for Transport Eamon Ryan and Minister of State Jack Chambers have announced €30 million in additional funding for regional and local roads. This is to deal specifically with the impact of climate change, which has contributed to a deterioration in the surface quality of certain parts of the network over the winter months.

Following persistent rainfall over winter and spring, this emergency investment will assist in addressing the worst impacted areas of the road network. In persistent wet conditions, water seepage contributes to damage such as the development of potholes or pavement collapse. 

€721,000 has been allocated to Wicklow County Council.

Speaking today, Taoiseach Simon Harris said:

“Today I am delighted to announce over to €700,000 for roads repairs and improvements across County Wicklow.

“The bad weather at the start of the year has seriously damaged our roads in County Wicklow and across the country.

“It was clear to me when I became Taoiseach that we needed to invest huge amounts of funding in our roads, especially to improve safety.

“As Taoiseach I have been travelling the length and breadth of our beautiful country and I have listened to the concerns of many regarding the state of roads and it’s clear to me we need to invest heavily in roads, especially remote ones.

“Today my government is investing an extra €30 million in road repairs and improvements.

“This funding will go to each Local Authority.

“We need to tackle the state of the roads and make sure no matter what road it is we make sure it’s safe to drive, cycle or walk on.
