Crime data has shown that Arklow Garda Station has reached a six-year peak in recorded offences last year. New crime data published by the Central Statistics Office (CSO) reveals that the number of offences recorded by Arklow Garda Station last year increased to 596 (up 20 compared to 2019 figures), ranking the station among 136 nationwide where crime rates reached a six-year peak.There were 481 crimes recorded by neighbouring Wicklow Garda Station last year, of which 135 were thefts (28pc) and 66 public order offences (13pc).
Nationally, there has been a 7pc reduction in recorded crime in 2024 compared to 2019, an improvement reflected across all Wicklow municipal districts, with recorded crime rates down in Baltinglass (minus 66), Arklow (16), Wicklow (368), Bray (c. 450) and Greystones (152).There were 4,627 offences recorded by Wicklow stations last year, with Roundwood (71pc), Dunlavin (41pc), Enniskerry (38pc), Wicklow (23pc), Aughrim (21pc), Greystones (20pc), Rathdrum (19pc), Bray (19pc), Carnew (15pc), Blessington (11pc), and Ashford (5pc) Garda Stations recording decreases in offences compared to 2019 figures, and Baltinglass (19pc) recording its lowest crime levels for six years.Shillelagh (53pc), Tinahely (24pc), Newtownmountkennedy (15pc) and Avoca (9pc) Garda Stations all recorded increases last year compared to 2019 statistics.
