County Council Plan Temporary Route On Bray To Greystones Cliff Walk

Wicklow County Council are planning a temporary diversion route to get the Cliff Walk back open on the Greystones side.

Cllr Stephen Stokes is supporting this announcement which was made at the December 2023 meeting of the Greystones Municipal District.

Cllr Stokes stated: "It is vital that the Bray to Greystones Cliff Walk is reopened as efficiently as possible. It provides a vital amenity for local people and an important tourism boost for local businesses."

Cllr Stephen Stokes is keen to see the Cliff Walk re-opened in advance of the tourism season.

Cllr Stokes added: "People come from all over the world to enjoy the Cliff Walk. Often this is part a multi-day stay in Dublin. When the Cliff Walk is open it gives them a unique Irish experience. They can get the train to Bray or Greystones, have some locally prepared food, and enjoy some amazing views along the Cliff Walk."

At the moment a section on the Greystones side is closed due to safety concerns.

Cllr Stephen Stokes acknowledged that it is important to ensure that these matters are looked at carefully, even for a temporary diversion.

Cllr Stokes noted: "It takes time to bring a project like this forward. There are important safety and liability issues to analyse. As Cathaoirleach of the Greystones District, I would like to give my full backing."

Cllr Stephen Stokes & Cllr Joe Behan previously sought to re-energise the Cliff Walk Management Committee.

This was in an effort to boost the efforts of the Wicklow County Council Officials. Wicklow County County are also planning to pursue a compulsory purchase order (CPO) to secure the preferred route, which is further inland.

However it is believed that moving the route long term will take some time to achieve.
