Biodiversity Awareness Workshops Start In August.

Wicklow County Council has announced the continuation of the highly successful biodiversity awareness programme, “Behind the Beach 2024,” at Brittas Bay for the Summer/Autumn season.

Wicklow County Council has announced the continuation of the highly successful biodiversity awareness programme, “Behind the Beach 2024,” at Brittas Bay for the Summer/Autumn season.This series of free outdoor public workshops and activities aims to increase awareness and appreciation of the rich ecology found in our coastal habitats and of the diversity of species with which we share our County’s most well-loved beach.This programme aims to highlight the vital role that healthy dune systems play in creating a more climate-resilient environment.

Key events in this year’s programme include:

• A Walk and Talk Through the Habitats at Brittas Bay – Thursday 1st August, from 5.30pm to 7.30pm.
  This guided walk will explore the diverse ecosystems that thrive behind the dunes and offer insights into their ecological significance.
• Autumn Bird Migration Workshop – Saturday 21st September, from 11am to 1pm.
  This workshop will focus on the migratory patterns of birds that visit Brittas Bay and the importance of preserving their natural habitats.
• Organised Beach Clean-Ups in the Dunes – Monday 22nd July and Thursday 15th August, from 5.30pm to 7.30pm.
  These events aim to engage the community in maintaining the beauty and health of Brittas Bay’s coastal environment.

All events will take place at the North Beach, with the exception of the Sea Buckthorn Volunteer Day, which will be held at the South Beach. All children must be accompanied by an adult.
