#IrishMusicMonth

We’ve dedicated October as Irish Music Month and we’re playing more Irish music than ever.

Thanks to everyone who submitted an entry - the music talent across Wicklow and beyond is incredible and we've been blown away by the quality and standard of the submissions.

5 lucky artists performed live on East Coast FM's Morning Show, with one overall finalist, Aoife Doyle getting the opportunity to play at a nationally broadcast event and win a prize pot of 5 thousand euro! PLUS - each of the 5 East Coast finalists will receive 700 euro!

A singer/songwriter from Bray, Aoife Doyle grew up in a very musical family and like many of the Local Hero inductees, sang from a very young age. Having achieved a B.A. in jazz performance from Newpark Music Centre in Dublin, her talent is clear to see and hear.

Her recent song 'Strength to be Strong', showcases her ability to fuse the genres of jazz, folk and soul in her songwriting. Her breathtaking new single 'Clare Sky' points towards even more success on the horizon for this Wicklow songstress.

Speaking about Irish Music Month and the Local Hero search, East Coast FM's Programme Director, Dave Harrington said:
'Each of our five finalists are all so different and impressive in their own right.  The judges had a seriously tough call to make and after much consideration, Aoife was chosen as our winner. Her voice is striking and has a unique musical tone.  It feels unaffected and authentic - rare to hear these days!  Her songwriting skills were aptly described by one judge as being on 'another level'.  Her musicality, coupled with the strength of just how genuine her music feels, really won us over.   East Coast FM couldn't be prouder of our Local Hero!'
